The FatIvan® is a fold up door chock made of plastic with a steel hook that fits over most door hinges to keep a door open wide.

I have had the FatIvan® in my turnout gear for 6-8 months now. I have used it numerous times on the job and have found the tool to hold up well and work in every application I have grabbed it. Some might add this to their helmet and carry it in their helmet band, I am not a big fan of carrying stuff on my helmet. I keep it in my gear with other more simple wooden chocks and it has become a regularly used tool in my arsenal.
Probably the largest benefit of the FatIvan® is that when it is deployed on a hinge cannot be bumped loose. It seats on the hinge allowing for firefighters to enter and exit without worry of knocking the FatIvan® loose like we might with other items used to hold doors open.
Some people have compared the FatIvan® to regular wooden wedges, they aren’t the same thing. The FatIvan® is lightweight (5 oz.), and made of strong, durable, engineered plastic and steel. The FatIvan® folds up and simply unfolds to hook over a hinge. It can be unfolded easily with a gloved hand.
I have used wooden wedges to hold doors open for years. I have left many on the scene and forgotten them. Hopefully I won’t leave the FatIvan® on scene as wooden wedges are a bit cheaper. However, the FatIvan® is a little more tangible than throw away wooden chocks making it harder to forget.
The FatIvan® doesn't quite work on piano hinged doors. We did use it folded up in the hinge. If someone were to bump the door, the chock would fall unless you had the magnetized version of the FatIvan®.
The FatIvan® works on most types of hinged doors. It holds the door open wide enabling you to get through the doorway easily. It may not work on doors that don’t open to 90 degrees.
